It has been a really nice week with nice people and special surprises. There is one from today that I just have to share right away. I have been going to the Subway across from the college for almost 7 years. When I first started at the college a new owner had taken over and was really interested in all of the customers (where they came from, where they worked). As we talked then and I told him I was a librarian he said: "well you are a teacher, you get a teacher discount!" I have never asked for a teacher discount since that first visit.
In the last month I have been eating at Subway 2-3 times a week. My schedule has just been so busy and it is easy to pick up breakfast, lunch, and dinner at 7:30am and have it be good all day. The owner doesn't work at 7am, so I haven't seen him in 6 months or more. Today when I walked in, he saw me and remembered me and said "she deserves a free cookie!" So now I have a peanut butter cookie to eat with my dinner. Just a super nice connection, and an example of how a simple gesture can make someone's day so much better!
