Dining Room Updates
Tessy is standing on a chair we just got out of storage. It also belonged to grandma and grandpa Nye.
This weekend we went to a moving sale and got the new rug under the dining room table. We really like the way the dining room is starting to feel - less like an addition and more like living space.
Saturday
Addition
We finally have the office and dining room set up. Below are some pictures today. We still have a lot of details - but this makes our work look nearly done!

Last Several Weeks
There has been a long delay in house activities, but things are now moving in the right direction again. The long cold snap we had in February with below 0 temperatures stalled all activity. Two weeks ago, we had a couple days of good weather, and the stucco color coat was applied. The color coat is temperature sensitive and had to be applied on a day when the temperature was above 50 degrees.

Last weekend we had a neighbor come with his equipment and do the final grading around the house and the garage for the final inspection. We also had an old air conditioner that we never used removed from one side of the house and installed on the addition.

This past week we hired a guy to build a sidewalk that goes from the driveway to our new side door.

Joel called for the final inspection on Thursday. We were hoping to get the approval on Friday and spend the weekend moving in, but the inspector did not come. Assuming he comes on Monday February 28th - we will be getting the final inspection on the addition 9 years to the day that we had the final inspection on our house.

Catching Up on the Addition
Many little things have happened in the addition in the last week/last day.
Below you will see the pass-through. The wood for the shelf was installed yesterday. It is beautiful and matches the kitchen cabinets.

Today Joel and I worked together to install the hardware on the windows and doors. Below - hardware for the bi-parting doors.

Here is the bathroom door with 3 coats of cheap paint (which will require 2 more coats of expensive paint). I got paint from the Re-store for this project (the Re-store has been a source of amazing things for this project - but not paint). I will do an ode to the Re-store in a future post. Not much to say about this paint, except that expensive paint is probably worth its weight.... But looking forward....

2 weeks ago we had the shower tiled and the hardware for the shower was put in last week. Toilet was also installed.

We decided for now we will have this pedestal sink. It was very inexpensive. This bathroom was part of the project we didn't not want to start or finish, but the plumber talked us into doing this. We are glad we finished it. We are looking for nice furniture to add to the space that will allow some storage and functionality.

We moved everything out of the garage last weekend - and put Joel's future office furniture into the future office. Even without the occupancy permit, we have been told we can store things in the space.

Below is the hardware to the slider in the office room.

Last week our tile guy came back and finished this seam. We had the 1/2 tiles removed (there were 1/2 tiles up to the old wall). Fortunately, the builder left behind a box of tile from our original house construction - leaving enough tile to replace the 1/2 tile with full tiles and make the transition from old to new a little more beautiful. He also installed the metal threshold (I have tried to imagine what this threshold would look like for years. Ever since we original built the house - this spot on the floor and its transition has been a point of concern for me). The construction paper is still on the floor because people are still walking on the new floor with big boots, muddy shoes, and bags of sharp metal scratching objects.
Yesterday, a father and son team of Steves came by and did the floor boards (I will be caulking and painting them in the coming weeks). The Steves also did the bathroom door installation, pantry shelf, and pass-through wood.

The pass-through looking from the new dining room into the kitchen.

The top shelf is new. When we originally had our house built we wondered why they stopped short of putting shelving all the way to the ceiling - so we corrected that with the help of the two Steves.

A Couple of Extras
Here are a couple of details from the last couple of weeks.
Below is the new garage - the first night we had lights out there. We installed these lights (brand new 4 matching lights from the Re-Store) that have photo cells, so they go on when the sun sets.
Below is the day the new/old tile was put in. Before the grout.

Here I am painting. I did do some painting on the project. I painted this wall of the kitchen, the new bathroom ceiling, and some of the new bathroom walls (but that is a long story that is best soon forgotten).

House Update
Construction work on the house has slowed a bit over the holidays - but this is what it looks like today. The week of Christmas the brown coat (which is always gray) went on the exterior of the addition and the garage. We will probably have to wait another month or so for the stucco coloring. It has to be warm in order to apply the color coat.

Below is a picture of the interior taken through the old kitchen window (new pass-through). The door goes to the office. The painters are working today. They are painting everything white and staining the wood vigas. They are silent workers and they are doing a great job. As Joel's sister said last night - sometimes paying money is worth it when it saves a marriage!

Below - Joel is spraying the brown coat. The days after the brown coat went on it needed to be wet, so Joel watered it in the freezing cold winds.

Drywall goes In
The rooms are finally taking shape. As much as we have planned and spent time in the addition up to this point - I was still surprised by the way it felt to actually walk into the space for the first time. It isn't as deep as I thought it would be and isn't as dark. It is much more open than I anticipated. The picture below is standing in our current living room looking into the new addition.

I thought this corner would seem really dark - but I think it is going to be a really light room.
