Books in Las Cruces

Las Cruces has two great bookstores. The two images below are from COAS, one of the best used bookstores ever. The New Mexico Library Association had an opening reception for a conference in this store 3 years ago. It was a great place for a reception. The store is giant and wandering, and around every corner there were intereing people to talk to and if the conversation waned, there were thousands of books to pull off the shelves and talk about.

The photo below is from the Book Center in Old Mesilla. This store has a great Southwest collection and a great collection of children's books. This is a store I remember going to most of my life with mom and dad. It is right on the plaza in Old Mesilla and is a wandering old store with lots of interesting places for good books to hide.

Dripping Springs Hike

Driving up to Dripping Springs was a stunning drive. The clouds coming over the mountains were amazing - and the mountains were lush and green. It was cloud for most of our hike, and drizzling rain - which felt good. It became kind of hot and humid near the end of our walk.

Hundreds of hummingbirds flock to the Dripping Springs Visitor's Center.

Below is a picture of some of the "ghost town" buildings at Dripping Springs. This house was part of the sanatorium at Dripping Springs.

The below picture is a cactus plant growing on top of one of the walls that was the resort hotel at Dripping Springs. The buildings were really interesting to see, but the birds, butterflies, moths, plants, and flowers along the way were the main attraction.
