Ghost Ranch

Arthur Pack moved his family to the southwest in the 1930s.  The lived in the canyon that is now Ghost Ranch.  Pack donated his property to the Presbyterian Church in the 1950s - much to Georgia O'Keeffe's dismay (she lived on a piece of property that Pack had sold her - part of the ranch).  He and his wife are buried on this  hill, with Pedernal in the background.

The Packs were a wealthy family.  Among Arthur Pack's friends was Robert Wood Johnson (of Johnson & Johnson).  Weeks after the Lindhbergh baby was kidnapped, the Johnson family had an intruder try to break into their baby's nursery.  The two incidents sent the Johnson family searching for a new safe place for their family.  They moved to Ghost Ranch with the Packs and built a home where they raised and home schooled their children.  The house they built is now the library at Ghost Ranch.  We were lucky to have our room on the top floor of the building during our stay.  Below is a picture of the house.
