Friday

Lincoln - July trip 3

I thought we were heading to Las Cruces, so I was surprised when we left the lake and started heading north again. We made our way to the Wortley in Lincoln and had a late picnic dinner behind the hotel. Everything is amazingly green there!

Every night we were there there were several storms. This is one at sunset on our first night.

This is Rascal, Vic and Cathy's dog.  He takes care of the Wortley.

Thursday

Fort Stanton LIVE! - July trip 4

Fort Stanton: Live was happening on Saturday, so we spent the day walking the grounds and attending presentations and lectures.

A flag raising ceremony that began the day.

We went on a tour of the German internment camp that was at Fort Stanton during WWII.  Our guide was dressed as the US Border Patrol agent that ran the camp.

The internment camp included a spring-fed Olympic swimming pool.  Joel is standing across the pool by the changing rooms.

Cannons were fired.

Sunday

Capitan

Capitan, NM is the hometown of Smokey the Bear. When we arrived on Friday - the east side of Capitan was on fire. Below is the east side of town where there was a roadblock. The fire was caused by the wind knocking down a power line. Power was out in Capitan.

Our destination was Lincoln. Since the road was closed we took a long detour that required dirt road driving. When we came out off the mountain dirt road on highway 70, there was another fire at the town of Glencoe.
